I dunno how many of you are familiar with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but if you want to do it, I have 6 (so enough for three people) of those quick connectors I'm not going to use. Asked my local group and everyone was all excited but no one really said they wanted them. So, does anyone want a pair?

I have no need for them, but I am curious:

What's the point? I understand that some people don't like to mount a front plate because they don't want to drill two small, harmless holes in their front fascia. This method, while novel, doesn't solve that problem.

My plan is to take it off for shows. The cups are pretty unnoticeable. I know a lot of people will ride around with them off, get pulled, say "Ooopsies, forgot to put it back on, I try not to leave it on when I go through the car wash (or some other bullshit), here, let me put it back on." and get a warning.

But why doesn't the car already HAVE the holes in it? Aren't they required? Most US states, Canadian provinces and territories, and European countries do require a front plate. So why aren't the holes already there?

It's on the factory traveler for a lot of cars. If the 'front plate' option isn't checked they skip that step. Others are all built without it and are port installed that way the factory turns out only one version instead of having two different steps there which could get mixed up (drilling a euro mounting pattern on a car destined to the US for example). If they're never called for they're never drilled.

Good question. To appease buyers in those jurisdictions that don't, I guess? I don't know.

I don't understand why some owners have such a disdain for front plates. In my province they're mandatory, and dealers almost always mount the bracket before the car even goes on the lot. Since they're on virtually every car on the road, they're accepted. Most people here, even car people, don't have an issue with having them mounted.

Years ago, I had an argument on the FP with someone who was adamant that if he drilled holes in his front "bumper", it would have a significant negative affect on the structural integrity, safety, aerodynamics and cooling of his car (an E90, IIRC). No amount of explanation that

A: the mount is a factory part designed, tested and approved by the manufacturer

and

B: the mount is fastened to the urethane bumper cover, which is not actually a structural bumper could convince them.
